Abstract Art

Undergrowth

I built this piece layer by layer: organic green forms on a deep, dark ground that create a play of light and shadow, shifting through the day. It isn't a print or a ready-made panel. Every line and every curve was made by hand.

More about this piece

The base is a birch panel covered with a thick layer of acrylic render.
Strips of XPS extruded polystyrene foam were bonded on top with a special PU adhesive, then coated with several layers of bonding primer so that all the components bond to each other.
Next came several coats of gypsum plaster and American joint compound, with PVA glue for added strength.
The finish colours are a dark spirit green and Musou ultra black, for depth.
